How to Expand Your Business Network to Leverage Your Time & Energy

Recently I was asked to share in an article for Glamour Magazine, my tips for expanding your business network. This was obviously a pinch me moment!
Firstly, because it’s another incredible win ticked off of my 2023 vision board✨and secondly because I got to talk about the old school principals of business (that I love) which a lot of newer coaches actively avoid!
When starting my first business 8 years ago I wasn’t meant to win.
I didn’t have a clue about business, no entrepreneurial network or role models to support me, a declining high street to contend with and an industry I had no business (excuse the pun) being in. As a first venture, owning a Barber shop probably wasn’t a smart move, especially as I had never actually stepped foot in one before!
I realised pretty quickly, trying to figure it out alone was going to cost me a lot of money that I really didn’t have. I needed to hit the ground running and come out the gate swinging.
With a background in HR, your credibility was based on the quality of the relationships you had with your business operations teams, so my first question intuitively was - ‘Who do I need to know who can help me to make sure I don’t F this up’ lol (true story). I had sold my house and relocated my family - there was no Plan B.

If so, here are my top tips for assembling your Avengers style A team of business contacts, to support you on your entrepreneurial journey:
✨Join your local Chamber of Commerce and see what support locally is available to you from other business owners
✨Go to every networking event you can find in-person and online. Be memorable. Speak to everyone, make sure they know who are you and who you can help
✨Apply for local business awards and look for local press coverage and opportunities to elevate your brand. We are often looking for global exposure online (which is great), but are missing the people who are just outside your door!
✨Utilise and leverage your current network of friends and friends of friends, make sure everyone knows what you are working on
✨Join a mastermind or network marketing business to expand your contacts ASAP
✨Host events - be the container for others and encourage them to bring their friends
✨Get involved with local organisations, universities and colleges, be known in your community
Embracing the energy of collaboration over competition, WILL 10 x your business with very little effort at all.
